  • 1 large head green cabbage
  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey
  • 1 cup uncooked rice (white or brown)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 (15 oz) cans tomato sauce
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tsp dried oregano

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cabbage by peeling off about twelve leaves and blanching them in boiling water for two minutes until pliable.
  2. In a skillet, sauté chopped onion in olive oil until translucent, then add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  3. In a large bowl, combine cooked rice, ground meat, sautéed onion and garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper.
  4. Place two tablespoons of filling at the base of each cabbage leaf and roll tightly.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread one cup of tomato sauce at the bottom of a baking dish.
  6. Arrange the rolls seam-side down in the dish and pour remaining sauce over the top.
  7. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for one hour; uncover for the last ten minutes to brown.
