  • 4 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two round cake pans or line with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients and milk alternately until just combined; do not overmix.
  5. Divide batter between pans and bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely before frosting.
  6. For the buttercream, beat room temperature butter with powdered sugar until smooth. Add heavy cream and mix until desired consistency is reached; add food coloring if desired.
  7. Layer the cakes with frosting and spread evenly over the top and sides.
