Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium firm apples (Granny Smith or Fuji)

  • 1/2 cup corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • a few drops of food coloring (optional)
  • 6 wooden sticks

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Insert wooden sticks into the stem end of each apple.
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir until the sugar dissolves, then bring to a boil without stirring.
  3. Use a candy thermometer to cook the mixture until it reaches 300°F (150°C). Add food coloring if desired.
  4. Carefully dip each apple into the hot caramel sauce, swirling until fully coated. Hold above the saucepan to let excess drip off.
